Our client is truly a behemoth of the financial services world; its activities span reinsurance, human capital consulting, employee benefits and data analytics. However, it is within corporate insurance broking that it is best-known. A household name in its own right, the company arranges the insurance programmes of some of world’s largest and best-known organisations.
Having successfully navigated the pandemic, with a share price and revenue higher than at its outset, it seeks to appoint an additional Business Development Manager within its ‘National Practice’. This boutique team typically focuses on clients with annual turnovers between £25M-£500M from a variety of industry sectors such as Manufacturing, Construction, Life Sciences and the Professions, that have complex insurance programmes spanning Property, Liability, Business Interruption and Motor Fleet to name but a few. Although the National Practice’s clients are UK domiciled, many will have overseas subsidiaries and operations in multiple territories, giving rise to further complex exposures and supply chain issues.
As a Corporate Business Development Manager, you will be awarded with an enviable pipeline of qualified prospects across your region, with significant information about each individual company attached. You will be tasked with establishing relationships with senior personnel at these companies (typically at CEO and CFO level), and developing meaning rapport with them about their businesses, the sectors in which they operate, and their exposures to risk. Naturally, this will lead to conversations about how these risks can affect the balance sheet, employee / stakeholder well-being, and ability to trade.
Armed with a detailed understanding of your prospects’ appetite for risk and the challenges they face, you will then demonstrate the breadth of innovative, market-leading solutions offered by this broker. For example, this could be helping with their due diligence when they are acquiring businesses, preparing for an IPO, reducing costly and disruptive claims by implementing a robust risk management plan, or allowing them to trade by protecting their order book with a Trade Credit insurance policy.
Whilst we are keen to hear from people within the insurance industry, we very much welcome applications from sales-focused individuals from a variety of sectors such as Accountancy, Recruitment, Commercial Property, Corporate / Business Finance, Invoice Finance, Wealth Management, Financial Planning or any other areas of the financial or professional services.
You must be an excellent communicator and pride yourself on your ability to build a professional rapport with C-Suite individuals from all industry sectors. You’ll have superb influencing and negotiation skills, with a natural curiosity for business. You’ll be commercially-aware, and be able to ask intelligent, relevant and probing questions to understand the nuances of your prospects’ sectors, whilst identifying solutions to any challenges they may face. Highly collaborative, you must be a team player who enjoys working to shared goals and objectives, and liaising with a range of stakeholders (internal and external) in order to provide a joined-up service proposition.
In return, you will receive a highly generous basic salary (negotiable to attract the best) plus a lucrative bonus that could result in earnings in excess of £100K in year 2. In addition, there are share options and a flexible benefits package that includes one of the most impressive pension arrangements in the market.
