This is a varied, challenging and extremely visible position within a high-performing branch that, despite the tough conditions over the past 18 months, has grown significantly. This growth is driven by the acquisition of quality new accounts, and also organically - as existing clients protect their businesses by further utilising this broker’s wider service offering.
In this ‘hands on’ Account Director role, you will personally assume control of a substantial portfolio of corporate accounts generating circa £1.2M in fee income, including several cases generating revenues of £300K - £400K (namely a Retail and a Construction risk), as well as other sizable accounts from such sectors as Media and Tech’. In addition, you will act as an ‘account guardian’ on a wider portfolio of clients whose programmes are managed on a day-to-day basis by Corporate Account Executives, but you will have oversight from a planning and strategy perspective. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key part in setting the future direction of the branch, be involved in insurer relations, and help create a collaborative environment where colleagues are using the full suite of products and services provided by this broker’s specialist teams (such as Risk Management, Aviation or Credit Insurance).
It is essential that you have extensive corporate insurance experience (although not necessarily as large as six figure income risks), a detailed knowledge of all commercial covers, and are comfortable dealing with clients from all industry sectors. Ideally, you will also have experience of controlling the programmes of UK domiciled companies with complex overseas exposures, as well as dealing with reverse flow business. You need not come from a management background per se, but you must have the confidence, gravitas and sense of authority to allocate tasks to Corporate Account Executives and Brokers, challenge their decision making, and ensure that they are delivering an excellent level of client service. You should have the ability to comprehend that global brokers are vast organisations with a myriad of different teams to be called upon, and you’ll be comfortable building a professional network across these.
