Already employing some of the most respected and gifted insurance practitioners in the East Midlands, due to the continued acquisition of quality accounts this global broker is seeking to add additional technical firepower to its Leicester operation with several new hires.

This global looks after clients of all shapes and sizes, from Tech’ and Life Science firms with massive growth potential through to some of the Midlands’ best-known corporates from the worlds of Energy, Construction, Distribution and Retail. As one would expect, many of these clients have operations in multiple territories, requiring the Leicester branch to take the lead in coordinating global programmes, and there are also a number of ‘reverse flow’ accounts pertaining to the UK elements of cover for companies with head offices abroad. Having had a presence in the Midlands for many years, the branch is proud of its market relations, and places the majority of business with Underwriters locally, although it can access the London and specialist markets for particularly complex risks.

Thanks in no small part to the technical ability of its staff, the Leicester branch is achieving phenomenal results and, with prestigious new clients being onboarded almost weekly, this growth trend is set to continue for coming years. As such, we have been retained to assist in the appointment of a Commercial Account Handler to deal with middle market business (up to circa 6 figure GWP) and a Corporate Account Handler to work on complex accounts (including some accounts with £1M+ premium spends).

As there are several vacancies, our client can afford to be quite flexible in regards to the specific duties of both roles, and the finer points can be tweaked to suit your skills, experience and ambitions. However, in either instance, you will be working on an allocation of established accounts and offering a high level of client service and broking support to colleagues, including helping with renewals, dealing mid-term amendments and negotiating with insurers. You will be expected to build a superb knowledge of all of your clients’ businesses, an understanding of the risks that they face and, should any gaps in cover exist, you will identify opportunities to mitigate these. As you will be joining a global broker, internal networking will be key, and you will be expected to utilise the services of colleagues from specialist teams (such as Claims, Marine or Risk Management) to ensure that your clients benefit from a sophisticated and comprehensive service offering.

Whilst it is not essential that you are currently working on risks of a similar size and complexity as detailed above, it is essential that you have a sound understanding of the basics of commercial insurance and relevant covers, as well as the confidence in your ability to build sound, professional rapport with large firms. As such, you must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to produce high quality reports and documentation. You must also be diligent, well-organised, and have excellent attention to detail. Needleless to say, progress made towards professional qualifications under the CII would add weight to your application (especially for aspirants for the Corporate position).

This broker prides itself on its flexible approach, and whilst colleagues are welcome to work from the office daily, if desired, they are encouraged to work from home a couple of days per week too.

In return, you will receive a generous basic salary and comprehensive range of benefits that can be tweaked to suit your own specific circumstances. For the ambitious, there are a myriad of opportunities for progression; for example, previous Account Handlers have successfully moved into technical, client-facing or managerial positions.
