For insurance professionals who take a keen interest in current affairs and the world around them, there cannot be many industry sectors that are more fascinating to specialise in than the Public Sector market. This challenging niche deals with mainstream covers, but with the divisional portfolio comprising such bodies as local authorities, police & fire services and national parks, you will be dealing with complex, big premium accounts, and your clients will be high profile institutions whose activities often make the headlines across the country.
Working in close conjunction with Account Executives and Directors, you will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day management of a portfolio of accounts, which will include dealing with mid-term amendments, preparing renewals, and answering any day-to-day queries in regards to cover. As you would expect, given the nature of clients, this is quite a ‘process heavy’ role, where you will have to develop a good understanding of tendering procedures. You will also scrutinise your clients’ existing insurance arrangements to ensure that they are suitably covered, and where gaps in cover exist, you will recommend appropriate covers.
As you will be dealing with senior personnel from public sector bodies, you must be highly professional in your demeanour, with excellent communication skills (written and verbal), and confidence in your ability to deal with a variety of stakeholders. You must be well-organised, with good task management skills, and you’ll be comfortable working to fairly rigid processes. It is essential that you are au fait with all common commercial covers and, ideally but by no means essential, you’ll have made some progress towards professional qualifications.
We welcome applications from insurance professionals from any commercial discipline, but we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience in dealing with corporate business or similar kinds of risks, for example Education accounts. We also particularly welcome applications from candidates currently working ‘in house’ for local authorities or similar, who wish to make the move into broking.
In return, you will receive a highly competitive basic salary and a market-leading flexible-benefits package. You will also benefit from a wide variety of opportunities for progression; for example, you could move into an Account Executive role, managerial position, or side step into other areas of insurance.
Our client is a huge advocate of flexible-working, can accommodate various working patterns (such as reduced hours), and would only expect you in a regional office (they have dozens nationally to choose from) once every few weeks.
