We are delighted to be representing one of the UK’s leading MGAs which, as a result of significant growth, is seeking talented Commercial Underwriters.

This MGA has an enviable panel of brokers throughout the whole of the UK, and given its business model, it enjoys a great deal of loyalty from them.

This is a very well-established and financially-secure Managing General Agent, which is supported by AA rated insurers. As such, this is a firm where Underwriters can enjoy a very stable, rewarding and long-term career.

You will be reporting into the Head Office, which is based in Yorkshire. Should you currently reside near to the office, it is likely that you will join on an office contract, which would require you to attend 1 / 2 days in the office. However, our client is happy to consider talented Underwriters from all over the UK. If you live outside of regular commuting distance from the Head Office, you could join on a home-based contract, where you would only be required to attend the office once a month for a team get together (travel expenses of course funded).

This company predominantly transacts Commercial Combined, Combined Liabilities, Construction Liabilities and Contract Works business, and it is well-known for the quality of its products, as well as the formidable service and technical expertise of its underwriting team. Cases written are in the SME arena, and these are typically up to £15,000 premium level, spanning a wide range of industry sectors.

Opportunities exist both within the Existing Business and the New Business Team. As an Existing Business Underwriter, you will typically deal with circa 45 renewals per month, and as a New Business Underwriter, you will be tasked with strengthening existing broker relationships, from which you will write profitable new cases. You will be encouraged (particularly in the New Business role), to attend broker visits, which will involve a mixture of face to face visits, as well as video calls. With both roles, you will enjoy dealing with a set panel of loyal brokers, with whom you will be able to enjoy strong relationships. Interestingly, both roles require a good level of manual underwriting, which many Underwriters in the team find particularly enjoyable.

Ideally, you will have experience of underwriting all of the above classes of business (Property / Combined / Liabilities and Construction), although if you lack experience in certain areas, extensive training and mentoring can be provided by highly specialist Senior Underwriters within the team.

Whether you join in an existing business or new business capacity, you will be passionate about retaining or winning business, whilst displaying a conscientious approach to achieving profitable underwriting results.

This is terrific opportunity to join a business that is performing exceptionally well. You’ll be working as part of a very supportive and engaged team that enjoys celebrating successes and recognising the efforts of people who go the extra mile. Given the scope of the organisation, there are many career development opportunities, both in and outside of the underwriting arena.

You will be rewarded with a basic salary of circa £40K (Negotiable, depending on experience), plus car allowance (new business role only), bonus and wider company benefits.
