This is a superb opportunity to join one of the North East’s most respected and prestigious insurance brokers in a role that has elevated responsibilities in comparison to many other similarly-titled roles.

Here, you will be allocated a portfolio of commercial accounts and be fully responsible for the management and retention of your portfolio, effectively acting in a hybrid Account Handler / Account Executive position. Clients will be from a range of industry sectors such as Property Owners, Retail and Contractors, amongst others. Accounts will vary in size and complexity, and range from £1,000 to £10,000 in gross written premiums.

You will build a sound professional rapport with all your clients, developing an understanding of their businesses and the risks that they face. You will ensure that their insurance programme adequately mitigates any potential risks, and where gaps in cover exist suggest appropriate action to take. You will be responsible for conducting renewals, marketing risks, making mid-term amendments and dealing with any ad hoc enquiries. You will also be responsible for negotiating with insurers in order to secure your clients the most comprehensive cover at competitive premiums.

It is essential that you have several years’ experience of commercial insurance, gained in either a broking or underwriting environment. You should also have a good knowledge of a range of common covers such as Commercial Combined, Packages, Property and Liability. As you will manage the relationship with clients, you must have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, and pride yourself on delivering excellent customer service. As you will be dealing with circa 30 renewals some months (depending on business levels), you must be well-organised, with good task management skills, and have a keen eye for detail.
