Opportunities like this – to train to become an external Business Development Manager (BDM) with one of the UK’s most successful insurance organisations – are extremely rare. Opportunities to do so - without having any previous insurance experience – are practically unheard of!
As a result of ongoing expansion, this highly-publicised commercial insurance giant has an exciting opening for a talented Sales Executive to join its high-performing team in the Harrogate area.
If you are an experienced and passionate sales person, this really is an outstanding opportunity to carve a stable and rewarding career for yourself within the fascinating world of commercial insurance.
Initially, this will be a predominantly telephone-based role, where you’ll start off by acting as a conduit between the Underwriting Team and its large panel of insurance brokers based all over the UK. Duties will include, but not be limited to, following up with brokers on quotes that your colleagues have provided in order to ensure maximum take-up, as well as fact-finding with brokers to ascertain what risks they have in the pipeline that your team may be able to quote on. You’ll also be involved with notifying brokers of new products and initiatives, as well as promoting any forthcoming marketing, training and hospitality events. Getting to your brokers will be a key part of the role, in order to ensure that they are giving the Underwriting Team as much business as possible. In addition, you’ll be working closely with external Business Development Managers to make sure that newly-appointed broker partners are catered for appropriately and that their underwriting potential is fully-exploited.
It is the Commercial Director’s plan that you will ultimately progress into an ‘on the road’ Business Development Manager position, which will lead to managing and developing a panel of brokers. As such, as part of your comprehensive training, you will have the opportunity to accompany BDMs on some external broker meetings. Your development plan will also include learning from some of the most gifted and experienced insurance professionals in the North of England, who will train you on commercial insurance products, as well as well as the nuances of the market. You’ll also be supported to study professional insurance qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute, which adds major ‘clout’ to any insurance professional’s CV. Working for an organisation that transacts circa £5Bn in insurance premiums per annum, you will benefit from one of the most impressive training and development plans in the industry, as well as a management team that will be fully committed to your success and professional development from day one.
First and foremost, you’ll be a talented sales person, with a successful track record of hitting targets. Just as importantly, you’ll be charismatic, memorable and engaging, with the ability to build rapport with a wide range of personalities. It is essential that you are naturally inquisitive, with a genuine passion for learning, and you’ll be able to pick things up quickly. With this role progressing into an external role, you will also have a full UK driving license.
You’ll be rewarded with a starting salary of up to circa £28K (negotiable), plus bonus and company benefits. Once you progress into an external Business Development Manager role, you can expect your earnings to increase significantly. This organisation is well-renowned for promoting from within, and boasts an enormous amount of career development opportunities.
