This is a truly rare opportunity in the North East broking market for an experienced Corporate Broker/ Account Handler to join one of the most respected broking teams in the North of England.

Our client is a global broking house that is long-established in the region and deeply committed to retaining a major presence in Newcastle. It is recognised by many as the ‘premier corporate broker’ in the area and controls a portfolio of corporate accounts comprising many blue-chip household names. Its management team is widely acclaimed for its technical ability, entrepreneurial approach and the strength of the relationships it enjoy with its clients.

This is an excellent time to be joining the business as its Northern region is going through an exciting period of change, which is resulting in numerous high profile new business wins. Many in the Newcastle insurance community will confirm that this is ‘a good place to be’.

In this high profile and challenging role, you will be responsible for working with a small number of key clients, including some of the most prestigious accounts held in the North of England. Clients come from a range of industry sectors, but with a slight bias towards Manufacturing and Public Sector risks. This broker’s Newcastle office has a minimum fee requirement of £15K, and many of the branch’s clients generate many multiples of this.

Whilst a detailed knowledge of all common commercial lines is required, and some experience of dealing with complex business is preferable, ‘cultural fit’ is very much the focus in this position and ‘having the right idea’ is far more important than masses of corporate broking experience.

We are keen to speak to candidates from similar global broking houses, but are also keen to hear from candidates from the national, regional and provincial broking firms, who perhaps may not be dealing with such large accounts, but can demonstrate a genuine interest in doing so in the future.
We are eager to hear from commercially astute and ambitious brokers who have strong market awareness, an understanding of the factors that are influencing the business world at present, a keen eye for detail, and an air of integrity and professionalism. You must also be a strong team player, with solid communication and negotiation skills, and able to build a sound rapport with corporate clients from all sectors.

Whilst it is not essential that you are ACII qualified, some progress made towards professional qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute would add significant weight to your application.

Alongside enjoying a highly satisfying role and the chance to further your career by working in close conjunction with some of the most respected insurance professionals in the market, you will also benefit from an extremely competitive salary and benefits package, as well as support towards professional insurance qualifications.

It is Aston Charles’ opinion that there are very few candidates in the local market who would truly excel in this role. As such, we would be willing to share our agency fee with well-connected individuals who can successfully recommend suitable candidates to us.
