This niche, legal firm continues to expand its client portfolio and as such, is seeking a Claims Handler/ Paralegal to join its central London office.

This business specialises in handling claims and litigation for Lloyd’s Syndicates and scheme insurance, acting on behalf of travel businesses including Travel Agents, Tour Operators, Hotel Chains, Excursion Providers and Cruise Ship Operators.

Joining an existing team of 8, you will assist with the defence of complex international Personal Injury claims, arising from holiday accidents, mainly abroad and some in the U.K. This will include the provision of legal advice to insurers/ clients about liability and valuation of claims, and to investigate claims accordingly, instructing experts as appropriate – on occasion, this may require overseas travel for contentious/ complex claims. In addition, you will use your strong negotiation skills in order to recover damages from third party suppliers and their insurers, usually hotel chains. Your caseload will be varied, dealing with anything from slips and trips, to fatal infections and exposure to legionella. Many claims are high profile and of a serious nature, attracting press attention, such as mauling injuries from a lion whilst on a safari. This is a ‘hands on’ and fast-paced environment, especially in peak seasons, where you will be encouraged to speak with clients via the telephone to progress each file efficiently.

In order for your application to be successful, you will need a solid understanding of defending Leisure & Tourism claims, from either an insurer or legal background. In addition, you will have working knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules, with a genuine interest for personal injury and consumer protection law. Whilst not a prerequisite, it would be advantageous if you’re able to speak another language, in particular Spanish, Turkish, Greek, Portuguese or Italian.

You will be rewarded with a basic salary of up to £25,750 working Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm. As noted, the office is in the heart of London, and you will develop and progress your knowledge and technical capabilities by working closely with the Director and Senior Legal Executives.
