Aston Charles is delighted to be working exclusively with a longstanding specialist insurance provider that is looking to identify a Senior Casualty Underwriter to take the lead in its new Leeds operation.
This role, with the exception of a few Treaty exclusions, will give you carte blanche to underwrite the risks that you desire within the Construction and CAR arena. You will be involved in the creation and implementation of the Underwriting strategy. In-line with specific brokers’ requirements, or any specialist areas you are involved with, you will also identify and develop new product offerings. Initially, you will be dealing with businesses with a turnover of up to circa £10m, via the broker channel, however these will not be ‘off the shelf’ risks and as such, will require traditional underwriting to ensure they are priced competitively and with the right level of protection. You will be responsible for mentoring two Underwriters who come from broader commercial backgrounds, in order to ensure that they are developed within these specialist product areas.
You will be required to have a strong technical Liability background, ideally with experience of Construction/ CAR. Our client is seeking someone with a ‘traders’ mentality, who proactively looks for ways to write business, rather than decline it. You will have experience in mentoring Underwriters, or at least the confidence and personality to do so. Our client is happy to invest in a candidate that may not quite be at this level, however, you must display the right attitude and desire to hold a senior position within a growing business.
