This broker has a large portfolio of commercial and corporate clients spanning a vast array of industry sectors. For many years, it has provided the Directors of its commercial and corporate clients a facility to insure their homes, cars and travel arrangements. As such, this role differs from many competing Personal Lines Account Handler roles with ‘High Street Brokers’ where the focus is on dealing with a volume of lower premium personal lines accounts. Here, you will work in close conjunction with Commercial Account Executives and be dealing with major ‘connected’ accounts so, understandably, offering excellent client service is key. As you would expect, many of these clients are very successful business people so you will often be dealing with high value properties, prestigious motor vehicles and non-standard travel arrangements.

You will be responsible for managing clients’ insurance programmes throughout the policy life cycle; this will include mid-term amendments (say if they buy a new high-performance sports vehicle or second home, or decide to take an ad-hoc holiday), and speaking to them prior to renewal to make sure they are adequately insured. You may also set up new policies when commercial clients who have policies elsewhere decide to bring all their insurances ‘under one roof.’

It is essential that you have a sound understanding of both Home and Motor insurance, and ideally Travel products also. As you will be dealing with successful business people, it is imperative that you are well spoken and articulate, with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). You must pride yourself on your attention to detail, in order to gain a sound understanding of clients’ estates to ensure that they are adequately covered. You should also be a strong team player who enjoys working to shared goals and objectives.
