If so, we have a genuinely exciting opportunity to work with a forward-thinking business that is looking to add to the ranks with the appointment of a Development Underwriter. You will be home-based and the first ‘foot soldier’ in the region with the view of growing the account to a level where an office will be created.
Your role will be to prospect brokers throughout the region, using existing agencies as well as your own contacts to deliver the new business target for the year. You will be regularly visiting your brokers to deliver a great service and build excellent relationships, with a view to growing the account they have. You’ll deal with an array of products, standard and non-standard, and will be expected to ‘trade’ with your panel to gain a balance of both the products they need and what you want, increasing GWP in the process. To support you, the Sales Director will have regular face-to-face meetings with you and initially attend some broker visits to ensure that you have all the training and skills you need. In addition, there is a team of experienced Underwriters in place to support you, and you will have access to suitable technology in order to price risks on on-site with your brokers.
Our client is only looking at experienced professionals within the insurance market. Therefore, you will have an in-depth background in broker relationships. Ideally, you will have a sound understanding of the underwriting process to be able to give your clients an idea on pricing. You will be a ‘Trader’, comfortable with negotiating with brokers, identifying their requirements and all new business opportunities. Personality-wise, our client is looking for someone that builds relationships with people quickly. You will be driven to perform, yet conscientious in listening to your brokers’ wants and needs, in order to build and develop a long-standing relationship.
