It is well known in the industry that this brokerage’s strongest suit is its claims function; it is staffed by some of the brightest and most technically gifted claims minds in the Yorkshire broking community. Recognising that claims is the true test of any insurance offering, it invests heavily in its Claims Department and the team there plays a crucial part in the retention and acquisition of key accounts.

Working in a friendly and supportive team (in one of the largest Claims Departments in Yorkshire), you will manage a varied caseload of commercial losses, with the complexity of individual files depending on your skills, experiences and ambitions. This broker’s Major Client Portfolio comprises very large companies including Blue Chip PLCs and well-known names from such sectors as Sports, Aviation, Construction and Education. As such, it is entirely feasible that you could be dealing with some fascinating and complex claims, including those that make the evening news!

This role is far more involved than the ‘post box’ claims role that is commonly associated with many brokers. You will proactively manage claims from initial notification through to satisfactory conclusion, and use solid influencing and negotiation skills in order to achieve best possible settlement terms on behalf of your clients. You will also get the opportunity to accompany Account Executives and Claims Executives on client visits. As well as managing a caseload, you be will responsible for collating and analysing claims data for presentation to clients, colleagues and insurance companies. With this in mind, you must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and be comfortable in your ability to produce detailed management information reports.

It is essential that you have experience of working within commercial claims, ideally with exposure to handling files across multiple lines such as Property, Liability and Financial Lines. You must be well organised and meticulous in your approach, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.

In addition, it is imperative that you have a keen eye for detail and strive for 100% accuracy in all your work. As you will be jointly responsible for promoting a culture of ‘Claims Handling Best Practice’ with colleagues from other functions, it is essential that you have a sense of gravitas, authority, and strong relationship management skills.
