One of the biggest names in the world of insurance seeks to add technical firepower to its prestigious Global Terrorism Unit.

In this high-profile appointment, you will work in close conjunction with the International Underwriting Director and other departmental ‘Heads of’ from across the business, both UK-wide and globally.

Already regarded as a market-leader in the fascinating Terror & Political Violence insurance sector, it boasts unique wordings and bespoke facilities. You will play a key part in the development of this thriving division, granted high levels of autonomy, and have a real say in the future direction of the Unit’s underwriting philosophy.

As a Senior Underwriter, you will be granted a high level of underwriting authority to write profitable business across new business and renewals. You will be responsible for managing a small team of highly skilled Underwriters; overseeing their development, checking the quality of work, providing guidance and training on technical underwriting issues, allocating workloads and dealing with HR issues, where necessary.

You will also be tasked with promoting the Global Terrorism Unit within the market, and managing relationships with a range of stakeholders, both internally and externally. Equally, you will be responsible for maintaining and reporting market intelligence, keeping abreast of sector developments and alert to new commercial opportunities.

We welcome applications from candidates with relevant experience gained in either broking or underwriting environments, although it is anticipated that you will have previously held the pen at some point in your career (ideally within the London market). Whilst no means essential, progress made towards the ACII qualification would add significant weight to your application.

Prior managerial experience is not a prerequisite, although you will have ideally held senior duties within previous roles (such as coaching and mentoring less experienced colleagues), and can demonstrate an ability to drive and develop an already high performing team. You must have an air of gravitas and authority, and be able engage and secure ‘buy in’ from across the business.

Given the complex nature of the risks underwritten, we are keen to hear from candidates with experience of RMS or other catastrophe modelling software.

As you would expect, you must also be highly numerate and extremely thorough, with a keen eye for detail and you will pride yourself on producing work of the highest quality.

This role can be based from our client’s Head Office in the City or a regional office in the South East. Alternatively, it would suit a home-worker who can attend offices in London or the surrounding area once or twice a week.

You will receive a very generous ‘Executive-level’ salary, plus car allowance, bonus, an impressive pension offering and an award winning ‘flexible benefits’ package.
