Initially, you will be supporting the Underwriting Team with their administration, as well as contacting brokers for any additional information they require, whilst also filtering through new enquiries. You will update the risk information with any amendments to existing policies, ensuring accurate inputting within set deadlines. To support your development, you will shadow more Senior Underwriters, and you will also be given some of the smaller cases to review. Once you have made your decision on these cases, you’ll obtain sign-off from your mentor. As you become competent, you will be given larger cases to deal with and embed yourself as a key member of the underwriting team.
It is essential that you have previous insurance experience, ideally within commercial insurance, although personal lines experience will be considered. The most important things are that you are hardworking, eager to progress your career, and committed to your employer. You will receive as much training and development as you require, whilst demonstrating loyalty and giving 100% at all times. You must have excellent communication skills and the ability to retain and digest information relatively quickly, in order to learn the products and processes.
