The Director of this Chartered broking house seeks a dedicated Commercial Account Handler to manage his personal portfolio. As such, this is a varied, high profile and challenging position and your successes will be visible to colleagues across the business.
It is truly an exciting time to be joining this prestigious firm as it continues to grow both by way of the acquisition of quality accounts and through the appointment of high calibre staff. Indeed, this position has arisen due the Caterham branch portfolio achieving record new business figures, and the management team taking the decision to reallocate some accounts in light of the incumbent Account Handlers skills, experiences and ambitions.
Working closely with the Director in question, you will assume control of the day to day management of his portfolio. These accounts are from a wide variety of industry sectors (from Property Owners to the Professions, and everything in between) but there is a definite bias towards Contracting trades and higher-liability industries. For example, the portfolio comprises some challenging accounts with Asbestos Removal, Ground Works and Engineering, many of which with combined gross written premiums in excess of a million points.
You will be responsible for administering mid-term adjustments, preparing reports and conducting renewal and marketing exercises. You will also be expected to lead broking campaigns for new business cases won by the Director. In order to understate the risks faced by your clients and help design an insurance programme that mitigates against these, you will be encouraged to develop a deep understanding of all of the businesses in your portfolio, including attending site visits and the like. As one would expect, you will also be responsible for negotiating with Underwriters to obtain the most comprehensive cover at competitive premiums. As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to help less experienced colleagues on an ad hoc-basis and deputise in the absence of the line manager.
It is essential that you have a solid background within commercial broking, including a sound understanding of all common commercial covers, with particular reference to Casualty, Motor Fleet and Professional Indemnity. As you will be working on a number of projects, you will must be well organised and be able to prioritise an ever changing workload. You must be diligent, meticulous and have a keen eye for detail. You should also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. It is anticipated that you will have made significant progress towards professional qualifications, although we do welcome applications from outstanding candidates who have chosen not pursue these.
Given the nature of the some of the accounts handled, it is essential that you have an abundance of personality and cane get on with people from all walks of life – wall flowers need not apply! You must be ‘on the ball’ and prepared to have difficult conversations with clients in order to ensure their ensure programmes remain suited to their needs. As such you must have excellent question skills, to identify gaps in cover and the like.
