This is a rare and much sought-after opportunity for an experienced Account Handler to start making the first steps towards becoming a fully-fledged Account Executive.
This broker has been trading in Greater Manchester for several generations, and during this time has forged a fantastic reputation in the North West business community. It is a trusted advisor to firms of all size, from sole traders and SME’s right through to more corporate clients with complex exposures. Its portfolio includes clients from a variety of sectors, such as Property Owners, Manufacturers and Construction.
This broker is an independent firm, with a very flat management structure – you will be working closely with the Managing Director on a daily basis. It is currently enjoying a sustained period of organic growth, so much so that it is struggling to service all of the warm leads and recommendations it receives from its existing clients. As such, it is seeking an experienced commercial insurance professional to join the team in a hybrid capacity. Here, you will be gifted a small portfolio of established commercial clients that will reflect your abilities, experience and interests, but will likely include smaller premium (sub £20K GWP) accounts from a range of industries. You will then assume control of more and more accounts as your confidence and technical ability improves.
You will also be responsible for working in conjunction with a Company Director and an Account Executive, helping to manage the day to day administration (akin to a more traditional Account Handler role) of a further portfolio of more complex accounts. Whilst the focus of this role is very much on the management of existing clients, you will also be passed warm leads from local introducers to convert.
It is essential that you are currently working in commercial insurance, ideally as an Account Handler or Trainee Account Executive, although we do welcome applications from talented Commercial Underwriters who wish to move into a broking environment. You must have a sound working knowledge of all common commercial covers, including Property, Liability, Financial Lines, Commercial Combined and Packages. Progress made towards professional qualifications would add significant weight to your application, but is no means essential. You must also be naturally inquisitive about business, and curious about the issues that affect your clients’ firms. As you would expect, you should be a presentable ‘company ambassador’ who can get on with people from all walks of life and you will also have excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
In return, you will receive an impressive salary (entirely negotiable but anticipated to range from £25K - £35K), a company pension and a generous bonus (with commission paid on both new business and the growth of the existing account). You will also receive a first-rate, bespoke training programme including one to one coaching, shadowing colleagues on client visits, and support towards professional qualifications under the CII.
