A superb opportunity for an ambitious Account Handler to join a progressive broker in a challenging role that differs somewhat from the standard Commercial Handler opportunity in the Yorkshire market.

In this varied position, you will be allocated a longstanding portfolio of accounts that typically do not require a ‘fully hands-on Account Executive approach.’ However, these clients still expect to receive a high level of client service, so you will work in a hybrid capacity – undertaking the combined responsibilities of both an Account Handler and Account Executive, predominantly from a ‘desk top’ capacity. Should a client require an occasional face to face visit, you can either do this by yourself, or you can shadow a more experienced colleague.

More specifically, your duties will include keeping in contact with your clients throughout the year to build rapport and maintain a detailed understanding of their businesses and the risks that they face. You will use this knowledge to ensure that their insurance programmes are suited to their requirements, and make recommendations as to coverage improvements where needs be. You will be responsible for administering any mid-term amendments, and likely be first port of call in the event of a claim. You will be responsible for negotiating with insurers to ensure that you secure your clients the most comprehensive cover at competitive premiums. You will be preparing various reports and associated documentation, and must ensure these are issued in a timely, accurate and compliant fashion.

It is essential that you have experience of commercial insurance, ideally gained from a broking environment. As your portfolio will include accounts of varying size and complexity, from a range of industry sectors, you must have a knowledge of all common commercial covers and be comfortable dealing with clients from all walks of life. Whilst this is by no means a sales role, we welcome applications from candidates who enjoy identifying gaps in cover and cross / up selling ancillary lines. Ideally, you will have made some progress with professional studies under the CII or can demonstrate a willingness to commence these.
