Due to the forthcoming retirement of a longstanding member of the Commercial Department, this national broking house seeks an Account Handler to join in a senior capacity.
This broker works out of state-of-the-art offices in one of Manchester's most prestigious business areas, close to all the shops, bars and facilities the city centre has to offer, as well as main arterial roads, bus routes and train stations. Here, you will benefit from a smooth handover with the departing Senior Account Handler (who will not retire for several months), ensuring you are fully up to speed with the nuances of the account. The portfolio that you will assume control of stands at circa £275K in commission and fee income, with clients coming from a variety of industry sectors such as Manufacturing, Engineering, Wholesalers, and Technology. Individual clients typically have premium spends in excess of £10K, and a number generate six figure premiums.
You will be responsible for working with a number of Account Executives and be responsible for the day to day smooth running of the accounts. This will include administering mid-term amendments, dealing with renewals, marketing cases, and preparing a variety of reports and other documentation. Building a knowledge of your clients’ businesses, you will scrutinise their current insurance programmes, identify gaps of cover and, where appropriate, make suggestions for policy enhancements. You will develop an understanding of partner insurers’ appetites for specific risks, and negotiate with Underwriters to secure your clients the most comprehensive cover at competitive premiums.
Whilst this is not a managerial position per se, as a senior member of the team, you will be expected to help support less experienced colleagues, deal with ad hoc enquires, and potentially deputise in the absence of the line manager.
It is essential that you are an experienced insurance professional with a strong track record of commercial account handling. This should include a knowledge of all common commercial covers, dealing with clients from a variety of sectors and being comfortable with larger premium business. Ideally you will have made progress towards professional qualifications, but this is by no means essential. You should also be a team player, who has ideally held some similar 'Senior Account Handler' duties, or can demonstrate a genuine commitment to taking steps towards this.
