This broker is certainly in growth mode, and is enjoying a period of sustained growth and profitability. Due to the continued acquisition of quality accounts, it is seeking an experienced Account Handler to join the team in a senior capacity.
Here, you will be managing a varied portfolio of clients that typically have gross written premiums in excess of £100K. This broker deals with clients from a range of sectors, including the professions and tech’, but as there is a bias towards well-run firms in higher-liability industries (Haulage, Construction, Manufacturing etc), then this role will certainly appeal to technical Brokers who are looking for a portfolio to get their teeth stuck into.
Working in close conjunction with Account Executives and Directors, you will build a deep understanding of the clients within your designated portfolio, and this is likely to include attending site visits in order to build rapport with key personnel and really get under the skin of their businesses. You will keep abreast of developments within these firms, continually scrutinising their insurance programmes and ensuring that their exposures to risks are adequately mitigated. Whilst this is by no means a sales role, you will also be expected to identify gaps in cover and, with the Exec’ Team, suggest ancillary products and services to enhance cover.
You will also be responsible for preparing an array of reports and documentation, dealing with renewals, and negotiating with Underwriters to ensure that your clients obtain comprehensive cover at competitive premiums. Whilst you will have no managerial responsibilities per se, as a senior member of the team, you will be expected to help and support colleagues, providing ad hoc technical advice and potentially deputising in the absence of the line manager.
Whilst it is not essential that you are currently dealing with six figure cases, or working in a similar ‘senior’ role, it is essential that you are comfortable with dealing with larger (£30K+ GWP) risks and can demonstrate a willingness to step into a role with elevated responsibilities. You should have a sound understanding of all common commercial covers, along with experience of dealing with clients from higher-liability industry sectors. Ideally, you will have made some progress towards professional qualifications under the CII.
