This is somewhat of a rare role in the Leeds market, and a superb opportunity to join a forward-thinking and dynamic business that takes a genuine pride in the development of all its staff.

This broker is one of the true giants of commercial insurance; it has offices across the globe and arranges the insurance programmes of some of the world’s largest, most prestigious and complex companies. Its Commercial Division has been trading in Leeds for many years, and the region has become recognised as somewhat of a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for SME and middle market risks. As such, this broker is making a significant investment by creating an additional Commercial Team to join its friendly and supportive office in Leeds city centre.

This role differs from many competing Account Handler opportunities as you will be effectively acting as both the Account Handler and Account Executive. You will assume control of a designated portfolio of clients, and take the lead in the successful management and servicing of your account. As such, you will build a far greater level of rapport with your clients than in a more traditional Account Handler role, alongside a very detailed understanding of their businesses and the issues that affect them.

Establishing yourself as a trusted advisor to your clients, you will maintain contact throughout the policy lifecycle, being on hand to deal with all general enquiries, mid-term amendments and conducting renewal exercises.

It is essential that you have previously worked in commercial insurance, either in a broking or underwriting capacity. Ideally, you will have an understanding of all common commercial covers and have dealt with clients from a wide range of sectors, although we welcome applications from candidates who have dealt with limited lines of insurance or industries.

You must have an excellent, warm yet professional, telephone manner and the ability to build rapport with clients of all walks of life, both blue and white collar. You must be well-organised, with good task management and prioritisation skills. Ideally, you will have made some progression towards professional studies under the CII.

This role is the natural progression for those currently in an account handling position who are seeking a more senior opportunity, or a role that can progress to a full Account Handler, Managerial or Technical Broking role. Indeed, many former employees of the Leeds branch have gone on to senior positions with the firm locally, nationally and even worldwide!
