We haven’t seen a senior underwriting opportunity as attractive as this in the Leeds market for some time.

As a result of business growth, as well as succession planning, this market-leading insurer has a rare opening for an Underwriting Manager within its Leeds office.

This opportunity is particularly exciting as the company sees the successful candidate being promoted into an Underwriting Director style position within the next 3 – 5 years, which will obviously attract even higher earnings and increased responsibility.

This is a varied and challenging role, where duties will include, but certainly not be limited to, delivering underwriting performance levels set by the committee and board, overseeing and monitoring underwriting processes throughout the company, as well as the management of a team of Underwriters.

You must have a solid underwriting background, with experience of underwriting portfolio business. Our client is not too concerned about specific product knowledge, as full training will be provided on this company’s product suite, however, you must have a successful track record of delivering underwriting profit within the general insurance market in a senior position. You will be highly numerate and analytical, and you will have a strong academic background. Just as importantly, you will also have first-class communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to operate effectively in board and committee meetings. Given the increasing pressure on the insurance industry in relation to insurance qualifications, our client is focused on appointing someone who has made some progress with CII qualifications. It is not essential that you have previously managed people, but you must be approachable, credible, a team player, and passionate about getting the best out of others.

You will enjoy working for a prestigious business that is renowned for being a true expert within its market. Moreover, you will be working for a very financially secure firm that has a long history of delivering substantial underwriting profit. Given the size of the organisation, there are also a wide range of career advancement opportunities, both locally and internationally.

You will be rewarded with a basic salary of up to £80K together with a comprehensive range of company benefits.
