Approaching its quarter centenary, this specialist insurance business has forged a fantastic reputation within the Rural business community. In these 25 years, with the support of a panel of circa 600 brokers and 25,000 customers, it has gone on to assert itself as one of the market’s leading Agricultural insurers.
Its knowledge and profile within the Rural sector allow it to keep abreast of developments within this constantly-evolving sector, adapting quickly to market changes and developing innovative new products. It can also underwrite with confidence, ensuring competitively-priced products still deliver comprehensive cover, backed with excellent customer service. Refreshingly, a recent audit proved that over 98% of its claims were paid. The firm’s innovative product range provides a range of solutions for Agricultural and Rural businesses, seeking covers such as Farm Combined, Rural Business Motor, Agri Contractors’ Liability, Hailstorm Insurance and Livestock cover, amongst many others.
Due to a sustained increase in enquiries, the need has arisen for an additional Underwriter to join the New Business Unit. Here, you will be dealing with business originating within a wide panel of brokers, including some of the best-known national and specialist Agricultural brokers in the country. Your allocation of new business enquiries will depend on your background, experience and knowledge of various risks. You will take a thorough report from your brokers in regards to risks, instructing them to obtain any missing information in order to be able to effectively provide a quotation. When the client is on cover, it is then passed over to colleagues on the Existing Business Team who will continue to manage the client on an ongoing basis. As you will be your brokers’ main point of contact within the company, yours is somewhat of an ambassadorial role, so you should always strive to maintain excellent relations with all stakeholders, ensuring that you are at the forefront of their mind when they next want to place new business.
This insurer is well-known for the strength of its training programme, with all staff benefitting from an ongoing personnel development plan, and those candidates who are not from an Agricultural underwriting background gaining from a very detailed induction and inhouse training academy. As such, we welcome applications from candidates from all disciplines of insurance, including commercial and agricultural candidates. We are also keen to hear from both broking and insurance company personnel alike. You must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively over the phone. It is essential that you are a team player with a “trader’s mentality” who thrives in a fast-paced, new business-orientated environment.
As this role is based in the Head Office, you will benefit from an enhanced array of opportunities for progression that simply are not available at most competing roles based at Regional Underwriting Centres. For example, you could move into Managerial, Broker Development, Technical or HR & Operations-related roles in the future. You will also benefit from a generous basic salary (negotiable depending on experience) and an impressive array of company benefits.
