Where many brokers have ‘run for cover’ during the recent pandemic, this dynamic broking organisation recognised that troubling times sometimes present opportunities. This is a long-established and financially-secure business, so the Management Team can afford to continue to focus on its plans for growth during the downturn, and its market share has grown considerably as a result.

Whilst this broker has been a major player in the Yorkshire insurance community for many years, it is has continued to move with the times, reinvest its profits and, in recent years, has appointed a number of new Directors to its Board. It has a real focus on ensuring its employs enjoy their work and remain engaged with the business.

As a result of this continued growth, the firm seeks to appoint a Commercial Account Handler to join the team, potentially in a senior position. Here, you will handle a portfolio of clients varying in size and complexity, from £5K GWP up to those with premium spends in excess of a quarter of a million pounds. Clients are from a wide range of industry sectors such as Manufacturers, Wholesalers and Hauliers, to name but a few.

Here, you will be responsible for helping a number of Account Executives and Directors in the smooth running of their portfolios. This will include producing a range of reports, documentation and submissions, negotiating with Underwriters, and scrutinizing existing insurance programmes to identify gaps in cover. Where exposures exist, you will make appropriate recommendations to ensure risks are mitigated.

It is essential that you have relevant experience within commercial broking, and this should include knowledge of all common commercial covers such as Property, Liability, CAR and Financial Lines. You should be highly numerate with good IT skills, and be able to produce a range of accurate, detailed and informative reports and associated documentation. You must also be a confident communicator who can build a professional rapport with clients from all industry sectors.

You should be a team player with a genuine interest in doing your best for your clients, displaying enthusiasm to deliver a great service. Our client recognises that professional qualifications don’t mean as much as ‘hands on’ practical experience and the right attitude, but some progress towards CII exams would add weight to your application.
