Opportunities to inherit portfolios are somewhat a rarity in the current market, but to assume control of a circa £500K fee income book is certainly most unusual.

What makes this role even more appealing is that the position is due to the forthcoming retirement of a senior member of the team, and therefore the account won’t be ‘under attack’ from an ex-colleague resurfacing at a competing broker.

Our client is one of the most respected names in the insurance business; a global broking powerhouse that arranges the insurance programmes of some of the world’s best-known companies. It invests significantly in its infrastructure to ensure it remains at the cutting-edge of the industry and prides itself on being able to deliver a first-class service and innovative solutions to its clients.

Here, you will inherit a substantial portfolio of longstanding clients from a wide variety of industry sectors, both blue and white collar. Clients vary in size and complexity, from relatively straight-forward £20K income cases through to six-figure fee risks with complex overseas exposures, and the total portfolio generates over £500K brokerage. Whilst the intention is for you to look after this portfolio in its entirety, for less-experienced colleagues, there is scope to only be handed a portion of the clients initially, with more clients fed to you in time as you get up to speed. Similarly, there is the opportunity to tweak the portfolio to reflect your skills, experience and ambitions.

The focus on this role is very much focused on the successful management of your existing portfolio of accounts. As such, you will benefit from a warm handover to your clients, and support from colleagues to understand their businesses. You will build on these existing relationships, developing excellent rapport with key personnel and an unrivalled knowledge of your clients’ everchanging exposure to risks. Working in close conjunction with a dedicated team of technically-gifted brokers, you will ensure these risks are mitigated. Where gaps in cover exist, you will educate clients as to the best way to address these. As one would expect, you will negotiate with Underwriters to secure your clients the most comprehensive cover at competitive premiums.

You must pride yourself on your continual professional development in order to keep abreast of changes in the market, different insurers‘ appetites for specific risks, and deliver a superior service to your clients. As such, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have made significant progress towards professional qualifications under the CII, or can demonstrate a commitment to doing so.

You must have excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and well-honed stakeholder management skills in order to secure the ‘buy in’ of clients from all walks of life across a variety of sectors. You be well-organised, meticulous in your approach, and have good task management skills. As one would expect, it is imperative that you have previous experience of commercial broking and knowledge of a wide range of covers such as Property, Liability, Business Interruption, Professional Indemnity and Directors’ & Officers’ insurance.

In return, you will receive a generous basic salary (entirely negotiable) and a flexible benefits package (encompassing pension, season ticket loans, DIS, CIC etc.) that adapts to your own personal circumstances. You will also benefit from a bespoke personal development plan and support towards professional qualifications.
