Playing a leading part in managing the insurance programmes of around a dozen corporate clients (generating circa £330K in fees), this is a superb opportunity to join one of the worlds best known insurance brokers in a senior capacity. This broker controls one of the biggest portfolios in the Yorkshire, including some of the region’s most prestigious firms – from blue chip PLCs through to privately-owned firms run by self-made business people.

Clients are from a wide range of industry sectors, such as Retail, Food & Beverage, Engineering and Technology. As you would expect, many of these firms have extensive overseas operations that require input from insurance professionals in a number of territories. The branch also looks after the ‘reverse flow’ business pertaining to the UK programmes of very large organisations that have head offices abroad.

For several years now, this global broker has been recognised as the market-leader when it comes to flexible-working. It has already embraced more modern working practices; for example, providing all staff with a laptop and mobile phone (regardless of their role profile or seniority) so they can adapt their work around their own circumstances and achieve the much sought-after work / life balance. As such, the company has been able to swiftly respond to the challenges of lockdown with the minimum disruption to clients or colleagues alike. It is anticipated that in the longer term you will be expected to be in the office a day or two per week, although there is scope to work from the office more regularly if you choose to do so.

The need has arisen for an additional Account Handler to join the friendly and supportive team. Here, you will be responsible for the day-to-day servicing of existing accounts. It is likely to be a varied portfolio that you will be working on, although there is scope to tweak your allocation depending on your skills, experience and ambition. You will work alongside Account Executives, Directors and Brokers, deal with mid-term amendments, prepare a variety of reports and associated documentation, and handle any general enquires. In addition, you will scrutinise the businesses within your portfolio, evaluating exposure to risk, and where gaps in cover exist. Using your knowledge and expertise you’ll then provide solutions in the form of additional products and/or risk mitigation to ensure your clients have the highest levels of cover in place.

Whilst you may not currently be dealing exclusively with corporate risks paying fees of £10K-£100K it is essential that you have some exposure to middle market clients generating brokerage income of circa £5K+. It is also imperative that you understand all the common commercial covers and are comfortable in dealing with clients from a variety of industry sectors. Ideally, you will have made some progress towards professional qualifications under the CII.

You must be a confident, articulate communicator who is able to manage relationships with stakeholders from a variety of walks of life. You’ll be well-organised, able to prioritise a number of tasks, and have a keen eye for detail.

You will benefit from an attractive basic salary (negotiable), and one of the best ‘flexible benefits’ packages in the industry. You will also receive a high level of support with professional qualifications (such as paid for exams, literature and memberships, as well as inhouse training academies). For the ambitious, this broker is well-known for promoting from within and boasts a myriad of opportunities for progression (locally, nationally and across the globe!) It is entirely feasible that you could progress into a range of roles such as Managerial, Sales, Operations or Account Executive roles.
