In one of the highest profile events in the Yorkshire business community recently, and a fantastic boon the Yorkshire economy, a global insurance broker is basing its new InsurTech operation in prestigious offices in Leeds city centre.

This broker has had a long-established presence across several locations in Yorkshire, and it already controls one of the largest portfolios of insurance in the region – including managing the insurance programmes of many of the area’s largest and best-known businesses from such industries as Tech, Life Science and Transportation.

It has identified this InsurTech division as the next area of hypergrowth for its UK business, and is establishing the fledgling team in Leeds, representing a significant commitment to the region. It has already appointed an experienced management team comprising several of the region’s best-known names in the insurance industry, and has one team of Commercial Insurance Advisors / Brokers in place already. The company is looking to further bolster this with a number of new teams of Advisers / Brokers over the coming months.

This InsurTech offers self-employed business people and SME owners the chance to compare, buy and manage all their insurance arrangements on a market-leading, bespoke platform. As well as offering clients the chance to manage their insurances using state of the art, in-house software, they also benefit from tailored advice and customer service that is second to none.

Here, you will be dealing with clients from a wide range of industry sectors, which will include inbound enquires, as well as proactively dialling out to prospective customers who have registered their details or requested a call. Utilising both sophisticated technology, coupled with your own commercial acumen and questioning skills, you will build an understanding of clients’ exposure to risks and recommend a suitable insurance programme encompassing various insurance lines (Commercial Combined, Property, Liability, Fleet and Professional Indemnity, amongst others). You will also identify opportunities to cross and up-sell additional business, deal with mid-term amendments, and handle renewals. Clients’ business will either be placed on in-house schemes, e-traded with a variety of carriers or, for more complex risks, secured by negotiating with Underwriters.

It is essential that you have some insurance experience, and ideally this will include a knowledge of commercial covers. It is equally important that you enjoy sales, have excellent communication skills, and are able to build rapport and secure ‘buy-in’ from clients from all walks of life and a variety of industry sectors from builders to beauty salons! You must enjoy working in targeted environment, where you will be tasked to perform against a variety of KPI’s (sales ratio, compliance, income generated, levels of cross selling etc). You should also be willing to commit to your continual professional development, including undertaking professional qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute.

In return, you will receive a generous basic salary, quarterly bonus (based on personal and departmental bonus), market-leading pension, and one of the most impressive ‘flexible benefits’ packages (including health & dental cover, discounted gym memberships, season ticket loans, dining cards and cycle to work schemes) that can be tweaked to your own personal circumstances.

The hours are 08.00 – 16.00, 09.00 – 17.00 or 10.00 – 18.00, on Monday to Friday (with no weekend working). This broker is based out of plush offices in central Leeds, close to the train station, car parking and main arterial roads. This company is known to be one of the most flexible employers in the insurance industry, and once you have completed your training you can take advantage of working from home several days per week, should you so wish.
