This rare In-House Insurance Manager position has arisen with one of the UK’s most successful and highly regarded Property companies.

With a comprehensive offering including Land Promotion, Property Development, Construction and Plant Hire, this circa £250M turnover business is at the forefront of the industry. With a focus on creating sustainable value in all of its activities, this is certainly a truly ethical and innovative organisation that offers very rewarding careers.

This opening has arisen as a result of the current Insurance Manager retiring after a 20+ year tenure, and so it is now time for someone to take over their role and really ‘make their mark’. Before the incumbent Insurance Manager departs, they will be providing the successful candidate with a thorough and comprehensive handover.

Working closely with the team, including the Legal Counsel, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the renewal of the group’s insurance programme, which comprises approximately 25 policies and has an annual premium spend of circa £2 million. This will involve compiling all of the required information and reports from subsidiary businesses and working closely with the appointed insurance broker to achieve satisfactory terms. In addition, other varied responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, working with subsidiaries to ensure that their ongoing and future activities are adequately covered, charging areas of the business for their proportion of the group insurance spend, ensuring the accurate and prompt recording of claims and incidents, and arranging necessary engineering inspections. In addition, this company gets involved in some fascinating projects and schemes, which will require your technical insurance input.

From speaking to the client at length, it is very apparent that this role has great scope for you to develop the insurance offering as you see fit, and that this role can ultimately become much ‘bigger’. For example, this may include becoming more involved in proactive risk management and health & safety in order to minimise claims and thus reduce the insurance spend, further developing the insurance framework, implementing additional insurance covers where appropriate, and streamlining some of the processes and procedures.

First and foremost, you will have significant commercial insurance experience, with a good working knowledge of the main commercial covers including Property, Liability and ideally Motor Insurance. Just as importantly, you’ll be highly organised, with an eye for detail, and you’ll be an effective multi- tasker. You must also be proficient with IT, including being able to competently use Microsoft Excel. The company is currently in the process of upgrading its IT system, and therefore we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who embrace technological change. Last but not least, you’ll have strong communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Whilst this is clearly a large organisation, the hiring manager describes it as being, “a big company with traditional values”, and this quickly came across during our discussions with them. The firm has many staff who have worked there for a long time (the longest tenure being 45 years!) and this is testament to the caring and supportive company that it is.

You’ll be reporting into our client’s South Yorkshire office, however, you will benefit from a hybrid-working arrangement, which will only require you to be in the office perhaps 2 days a week, although you are welcome there as much as you like!

You will be rewarded with a starting salary of circa £40K - £45K, plus an annual bonus (discretionary, but typically 10% of salary), attractive share options, and a wide range of other company benefits.
