We are delighted to be representing a well-established, specialist insurance company operating in the Employment Law arena that is seeking a Senior Claims Handler within its Manchester office.

Our client forms part of a major, well-known group that provides specialist HR services to the UK business community, and this insurance division offers a specialist Commercial Legal Protection policy to its customers.

If you are from an Employment Law background and are looking for less stress, and a varied and challenging role within the general insurance sector, then look no further than this…

This is a terrific opportunity to join our client’s busy insurance claims team, where you will process, review and manage the insurance element of Employment Tribunal claims. You’ll ensure that the right insurance position is put in place and fed back to panel Solicitors, enabling them to take the case forward. Specific duties will include, but certainly not be limited to, collecting accurate information and documents to proceed with insurance claims, reviewing tribunal papers against detailed logs of advice given to respondents, and analysing claims made by policyholders. In addition, you will determine policy coverage and handle suitable award reserving, as well as reviewing, authorising and rejecting, where appropriate, payments raised by colleagues. As part of your senior role, you’ll also be responsible for supporting, coaching and mentoring junior Claims Handlers.

It is likely that you will be transitioning from a Legal background, as did the Manager of this specialist team. They confirm that since joining the insurance industry, “they have never looked back”, and they cite the benefits as being, “less stress, a chance to move away from the constant pressure of targeted, billable hours, less ‘dog eat dog’, and the opportunity to carve a varied and rewarding career within a growing insurance business.” Because this is fairly small but growing team within a large, well-known group, the hiring manager says that this results in there being a lot of very interesting projects to work on, and a heightened level of involvement, autonomy and responsibility than is found in larger insurers.

It is absolutely essential that you have a good working knowledge of Employment Law and Tribunal processes, together with strong negotiation, decision-making and organisational skills. As expected, attention to detail and sound report-writing skills are required, as is the ability to effectively assess junior consultants’ training needs and work collaboratively to objectively audit others’ work and deliver constructive feedback where required.

This company has an ambitious growth strategy and is bringing out further products to the market. As such, this role has clear scope for development as the business continues to evolve.

The firm operates a hybrid-working arrangement, allowing you to work one day a week from home, and the rest within superb offices in Manchester city centre.

You will be rewarded with a competitive basic salary, together with a range of company benefits including a healthy annual profit share.
