Whether you are currently working ‘in-industry’, or employed within a broking or underwriting environment, this is a superb opportunity to forward your insurance career in a fascinating, challenging and rewarding inhouse insurance role with a business that is well-known at home and abroad - Luton Airport.
Luton Airport is the UK’s fifth largest (and fastest growing) airport, and a key gateway to the City of London and part of the world’s largest aviation system. Home to 8 airlines (such as EasyJet and Ryanair), in 2023, it facilitated over 15 million passenger journeys to 132 destinations.
Reporting to the Airport’s General Counsel, you will proactively manage the business’ insurance programme, including taking the lead on the insurance renewal, and ensuring that all risks are suitably covered (for the existing business, as well as any forthcoming construction or expansion projects). Where gaps in cover are identified, you will work with the appointed brokers to create innovative solutions to mitigate these.
You will also act as the main point of contact (internally and externally) on all insurance-related matters, help the legal team to develop insurance procedures (for example, cover requirements for third parties operating at the airport), and help to produce company risk management advice and associated documentation.
Whilst the majority of insurance claims are handled by the brokers, there is scope to be involved in larger claims yourself, if desired. You will collate and analyse management information, identifying claims trends and making recommendations to correct these. You will also have the final say in regards to some smaller claims made by passengers against the airport (such as ‘rubber stamping’ payment for lost or damaged luggage).
It is essential that you have a solid understanding of all common commercial covers, such as Property, Liability and Motor Fleet etc. Whilst not essential, knowledge of Aviation specific covers (such as Airside Liability) would add significant weight to your application. Similarly, Spanish language skills would be advantageous, although this is by no means mandatory.
You must have excellent communication skills, together with the ability to build rapport with stakeholders at all levels. You should also have strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to see wider strategic issues. It’s essential that you are well-organised, with excellent task-management skills, and the ability to work to a variety of deadlines. You’ll also be enthusiastic, with a high degree of integrity, diplomacy and tenacity.
As a forward-thinking employer, Luton Airport operates a flexible-working regime, and you will be able to work hybrid / remote. There is a free on-site gym, and extensive shopping and dining facilities within the complex. Clearly, the airport is well-connected with extensive parking and Luton Airport Parkway, so this role will appeal to candidates from across large portions of the Midlands and South East England.
In return, you will receive a generous basic salary plus a profit-share bonus and an impressive array of benefits such as discounted travel, volunteering days and discounts at on-site shops and restaurants.
