Simply put, this is the most exciting opportunity that the Glasgow market has seen in recent years, for a relatively inexperienced Commercial Account Handler.
Operating out of over 100 countries, this broker is a household name in its own right, and its Glasgow branch is one of the biggest firms in the region. It is highly profitable, and led by a strong management team comprising some of the area’s brightest broking personnel. When coupled with its industry leading in-house training programme, it is easy to see why many view this broker as the best place for the ambitious to further their career.
Working within a team of 5 Corporate Brokers and reporting into a Corporate Broking Manager, you will provide a high level of support to a number of Corporate Account Executives and Directors. Each of your clients will have a number of points of contact, including the Account Executive or Director, Placing Broker and Claims Executive. This gives sense to a real team ethos, where all colleagues pull together to provide an exceptionally high level of client service, and you will benefit from working in close conjunction with some of the best in the business.
You will be tasked with assisting in the day to day management of a varied portfolio of clients from a wide range of industries. Individual clients typically generate commission and fees in excess of £25K and are based across the region.
Whilst it is not essential that you have exposure to similarly-sized corporate accounts, you must have some commercial experience, ideally, with a reasonable understanding of Property, Liability and Fleet covers. Preferably, this will be backed up with some progress made towards qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Given that you will be dealing with senior personnel at some of region’s largest companies, it is essential that you are confident, articulate and professional in your approach, with exemplary written and verbal communication skills. Proactive and forward-thinking, you will your use your initiative to anticipate problems and take ownership of any issues that may arise.
Above all, you must recognise the scope of this rare opportunity, demonstrating hard work and ambition. This includes taking full advantage of the in-house training programme that extends to support towards the cost of professional qualifications (exam costs, books and memberships), paid study leave, expert tutors, shadowing colleagues, and an in-house academy to complement the CII training programme.
