It is seeking to add to its team with the appointment of an experienced commercial insurance professional, and the hiring manager is quite relaxed about how this can take shape. For example, he is willing to accept applications from those candidates who are currently serving as Junior Commercial Brokers / Handlers through to more Senior Handlers who can assume more responsibilities within the business. For less experienced candidates, you will be given the chance to slowly build up your technical skills until you are comfortable ‘taking the lead’ on your own portfolio of accounts, effectively managing your portfolio akin to that of a ‘Desk Top Account Executive’. More experienced candidates will be allocated an account in-line with their experience and be granted a great deal of autonomy in regards to how best to manage the portfolio. In either instance, you will get the chance to really ‘make the role your own’, for example, whilst there are no new business targets, those candidates wishing to pursue business development opportunities will be supported and rewarded for doing so.
This broking house portfolio has clients of all shapes and sizes, from those with premium spends of a couple of hundred pounds up to those that generate six figure GWP. Clients are from a wide range of industry sectors, including Tradespeople, Retail, Manufacturing and Engineering. As such, it is essential that you have a solid basic understanding of Property and Liability insurance, and ideally exposure to the full range of commercial covers (such as Professional Indemnity, D&O, CAR and Fleet etc.) This brokerage has a reputation for investing in the professional development of all its staff, so the Branch Manager explains that he is ‘keen to speak to candidates whose CV tells a story, rather than just making repeated like-for-like sideways moves’. You must also have a keen eye for detail and possess a natural curiosity, understanding your clients’ businesses in order to source them the most appropriate insurance solutions.
In return you will receive a generous basic salary that is completely open to negotiation, but anticipated to be £20-25K for a junior Account Handler and potentially exceeding £30K for a more experienced candidate.
