You will be accountable for ensuring that schemes are rated accordingly, in order to produce a satisfactory underwriting profit. Continually reviewing the performance of the accounts through ongoing analysis, you will work closely with the Risk and Policy team. Maintaining and developing relationships between the agent/ broker panel, you will help support business retention. You will produce new business and renewal quotations in line with underwriting authorities and agreed service standards and assist in managing the relationships with business producers, utilising the auditing and claims resources available within the business. You will also review circumstances of any large loss and where appropriate, implement preventative actions to the scheme, in order to mitigate further loss. It’s expected that you will use your experience to be the referral point within the Underwriting Team.
Ideally, you will have significant underwriting experience and a sound technical understanding of insurance products from within an Underwriting capacity. Knowledge of personal/ financial lines products would certainly be advantageous, although this is not essential. Importantly, you must possess the ability to underwrite a product, rather than relying solely on system driven rating engines. Individuals from a niche underwriting background will be considered, as long as they can demonstrate a strong technical knowledge of their specialist product line. It is vital that you have a positive mind-set and that you are self-motivated to progress in your career; shrinking violets need not apply.
