This challenging new role is the brainchild of the Managing Director, and forms a key part of the Boards’ strategy of continually improving and developing the business to ensure it can continue to hit its target of double-digit growth for generations to come.
The Commercial Department controls a vast portfolio of accounts, covering virtually every risk imaginable, both blue and white collar. These range from SME accounts held on specialist (not to mention very profitable!) schemes, through to very large and complex risks from such industry sectors as Life Sciences, Tech’ and Construction.
Whilst the exact nature of the role can be tweaked to suit your skills, experiences and ambitions, it is anticipated that you will assume responsibility for the smooth running of the Commercial Department. With the support of departmental Managers and Seniors, this will include overseeing the activities of Account Executives, Account Handlers & Brokers and support personnel.
As part of the Management Team, you will be working on a number of projects and be expected to implement new processes and procedures. Being alert to new opportunities, you will be looking at innovative ways to develop the Commercial Department, such as developing more schemes or targeting new sectors. As the business’s commercial figurehead, you will be expected to manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, for example ensuring that your colleagues enjoy frictionless dialogue with Underwriters, are in constant contact about forthcoming cases (new business and renewal) and aware of which carriers have an appetite for specific risks.
In this high-profile role, you will be responsible for promoting the highest level of professionalism within the Department. You will encourage your colleagues to work towards professional qualifications and to play a part in the local insurance community.
It is essential that you are an experienced manager, ideally this will have been gained in a broking environment, but we do welcome applications from outstanding candidates from an insurance company background. You must also have extensive exposure to commercial insurance, including knowledge of all common covers and, ideally, some progress made towards professional qualifications under the CII. Experience of working in an operations style role, having worked on specialist projects or helping roll out new initiatives and procedures, would all add significant weight to your application.
