Our client, an international insurer, is looking to grow its dedicated Surety product line that will provide long-term profitable growth through service-driven, specialist underwriting.

The account currently stands at £5m GWP for Surety business in predominantly Commercial Bonds, and priority will be given to ensuring the retention of this account, whilst identifying growth areas.

You will provide key partners with a flexible approach to underwriting, with an appetite for commercial bonds. Leading the Underwriting Team, you will determine your own objectives within the wider company plan for the group, as well as providing tactical and strategic leadership for the division. You will have the license to operate with considerable independence, with the occasional direction from the Underwriting Director. You will define the product line strategy and recommend business plans to generate continued profitable growth. The review and analysis of all new insurance risks for pricing, risk exposure and compliance within underwriting guidelines and authorities, will be conducted by you.

Product wise, you’ll deal with License and permit bonds, Customs bonds, Duty Deferment bonds, EU Guarantees, Performance bonds Deposit/Advance, Payment bonds, Maintenance and Retention Bonds, Travel Bonds, Bid/Tender Bonds, Court bonds, Rural Payments Agency Guarantees and Miscellaneous bonds.

To be considered for the role, you will have a minimum of 10 years' in a Lead Underwriting role, with in-depth knowledge of Surety products. You will have a demonstrable track record of profitable transactions and generating business growth, as well as being au fait in writing and executing underwriting business plans. It’s crucial that you have broad operational skills and experience in underwriting, including budgetary management, financial management, and resource allocation etc. You must be comfortable dealing with Commercial Bonds and low-value Construction Bonds as this is the target area of the client.
