This well-respected broker has had a presence in the Bristol market for many years. It is well-known for the technical expertise of its staff, and is also recognised locally as a great place to work – employee satisfaction surveys are very high, and the staff retention is equally impressive. With this in mind, it has decided to reallocate a large portfolio of accounts from other branches to the Bristol office.
As such, the need has arisen for a Team Leader to join the Commercial Department in a high-profile role. Here, you will be responsible for the management of a number of experienced Commercial Account Handlers. This will include allocating workloads, dealing with technical enquirers, checking the quality of work carried out, and ensuring opportunities for cross and upselling are realised. You will also ensure that staff conduct themselves in a fashion that complies with inhouse procedures / recognised best practice, and you will also develop your own processes to drive efficiencies. In addition, you will be responsible for providing ad hoc technical advice, identifying training needs, and being instrumental in delivering developmental sessions to ensure the team’s skills are continually evolving.
As you would expect from a fast-paced role where you could be dealing with a client one moment, then performing a colleague appraisal the next, it is essential that you have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). Equally, as you will be dealing with clients from a range of industry sectors – from high liability trades through to the professions, you must be a superb company ambassador who can secure buy-in from people from all walks of life. As you would expect, you should have a sound knowledge of all common commercial covers and, whilst not essential, have made some progress towards professional qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute.
The ideal candidate will currently be working in a similar Team Leader position in a commercial broking environment, although we will consider applications from outstanding candidates who are currently in an ‘Assistant Team Leader’ style position, or a Senior Account Handler who regularly deputises in the absence of their line manager.
