This is a terrific opportunity for a talented insurance professional to further their career by joining a specialist division of one of the biggest names in the world of insurance.

Whilst our client has a presence across the globe and arranges all kinds of cover for every conceivable risk, the Nottingham office is regarded as the dedicated UK hub for Property Insurance. The risks handled by this team include Unoccupied, Thatched, Subsided & Underpinned, or previously flooded properties, alongside High Net Worth houses and some commercial properties such as Bed & Breakfasts. The firm’s expertise in the field has been well-recognised, and it has been awarded numerous industry awards and holds the prestigious ‘5 star Defaqto rating’.

This firm is well-known in the local market as being a great place to work; it offers a friendly and supportive environment, where there’s a real sense of camaraderie and working to shared goals. It has a strong ethos for ‘promoting from within’ and offers a variety of opportunities for progression. In fact, many of the Nottingham office’s Management Team joined in a similar position and have risen through the ranks. The company is based in Nottingham city centre, close to all train, tram and bus stops and, amazingly, has an onsite restaurant that offers all staff lunch (alongside fruit and snacks) FREE OF CHARGE every day!

As Underwriting Manager, you will handle the Nottingham office’s account to ensure that a variety of existing Service Level Agreements are achieved. Moving forward, you will work with the Management Team to develop the divisional plan in respect of income and loss ratio targets etc. You will also manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external.

As a senior member of the business, you will oversee the technical development of less-experienced colleagues, allocate workflows, and ensure that the company’s underwriting philosophies are understood and followed. You will ensure that all work is carried out compliantly, and should any complaints arise, deal with these as outlined by the group Professional Standards Manual. You will also personally underwrite your own caseload; typically the more complex and challenging files.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the Household or Property insurance market (including exposure to non-standard risks) and have previously worked in a role that combines underwriting, account management and helping to oversee a team. However, we welcome applications from outstanding candidates who don’t quite ‘tick all the boxes’ but are confident in their ability to quickly get up to speed on any new areas. You must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to be able to secure ‘buy in’ from all stakeholders and help build a collaborative, goal-orientated team. Ideally, you will be degree-educated and have made some progress towards professional qualifications under the CII.

In return, you will receive a generous basic salary (entirely negotiable, but anticipated to be in the region of £40K) and an impressive benefits package including support towards professional qualifications. For the ambitious, this role could lead to a myriad of opportunities for progression, including access to roles across the UK and, if desired, even further afield.
