In one of the most exciting developments in the Yorkshire insurance market for many years, this well-known national firm is relocating a number of its head office functions to Leeds city centre.
This is a significant boost for the Leeds economy, and over coming years, offers massive employment opportunities; including technical insurance roles, and other back-office and support function positions, at all levels.
As much of the first cohort of employees will be not necessarily come from an insurance background, and be destined for positions in such teams as Finance & Accountancy or Tech Support, the Operations, Learning & Development Manager is crucial to the success of the new Leeds branch.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will likely be working in a senior or managerial position within commercial / corporate insurance, and be looking to take their career in an exciting new direction. Here, you will initially be responsible for training colleagues in non-technical roles as to how various moving parts of the insurance world fit together (covering broking, underwriting, MGA’s, Lloyd’s and the London Market, wholesale and reinsurance). In the following months, as dozens more ‘technical’ roles come live in Leeds, you will be training and up-skilling insurance personnel at all levels (from completely new industry entrants such as Apprentices and people on Graduate Schemes, through to seasoned veterans of the industry with many years’ experience) in all aspects of insurance, including all commercial and personal covers.
You will also be involved in a wide variety of projects, such as managing relationships with a range of stakeholders such as colleagues in other offices (UK & abroad), insurer partners, claims management companies and the like. You will also act in an ambassadorial capacity, promoting insurance as a desirable career and working with local schools and universities to attract the brightest new talent to the company.
It is essential that you have a detailed understanding of all aspects of the insurance world, in particular how Lloyd’s and the London market operates. This should include knowledge of systems like Xchanging and ECF, and how various practices such as the insurer placement process and common insurance accounting processes work.
You should have a detailed understanding of all common commercial covers such as Property, Liability, Fleet, Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers, Contractors All Risks, Commercial Combined and Package.
Needless to say, it is essential that you are able to convey all of these points accurately and in a memorable and entertaining fashion that appeals to colleagues at all stages of their insurance career.
Ideally, you will have some experience of designing and delivering training, but we certainly welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate a genuine passion for developing these skills.
Progress towards professional qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute will add significant weight to your application.
