In an exciting boon to the Yorkshire business community, this well-known national insurance organisation is relocating a number of its head office functions to Leeds city centre.

It seeks an experienced insurance professional to manage several mini teams; initially these will each comprise a small number of ‘non insurance people’ such as Finance & Accounts and IT support personnel. However, as the business launches several commercial insurance teams in Leeds, you will be responsible for these also. You will be responsible for allocating workloads, ensuring work is carried out in a complaint fashion, and making sure that employees are progressing with their own personal development plans.

In addition, each of your teams will have specific responsibilities that you will oversee; for example, the Finance Team will be processing premiums and the Commercial Brokers will need advice on placement strategy and the ongoing management of existing accounts. As a senior member of the fledgling Leeds branch, you will benefit from a high profile in the business, and be involved in a number of varied projects such as managing relations with a variety of stakeholders across the insurance industry.

It is essential that you have some management experience, and whilst not a ‘deal breaker’, this should ideally include overseeing several teams simultaneously. It is essential that you understand how all the moving parts of the insurance world work (for example broking, underwriting, wholesaling, reinsurance and claims). More specifically, whilst you need not have worked in a Lloyd’s broker, you should understand the nuances of the London market and be somewhat familiar with Xchanging. You must also be au fait with all common commercial, personal and speciality insurance lines. This experience can be gained in a broking or insurer environment.
