How Has the UK GI Recruitment market changed in comparison to last year?
I think it’s fair to say that 2013 has been the most buoyant GI recruitment market for a long time. This is especially true at the senior end of the market, where we have gone from the ‘green shoots of recovery’ to almost pre-recession levels of appetite within the last 12 months. Positively, many of our clients are now recruiting as a result of growth, rather than replacement. Now that things are looking up for the economy, many of our clients have stopped focussing on treading water and are now investing heavily in top talent to capitalise on the exciting opportunities ahead.
What is the most common job role that is sought after?
We are not witnessing any spike in interest for any particular type of job. However, we are finding that most of the candidates we speak to are a lot more focussed on joining the right firm i.e. a company that invests in its employees, has a demonstrable track record of promoting from within, and has no major history of redundancies. If any of your readership are planning to recruit, I would urge them to be very selective about which agencies they work with and choose one that is keen to understand their culture and USP’s, in order to cherry pick the most appropriate candidates.
How many candidates do you have currently looking for work within the General Insurance Market?
In addition to a database of thousands of ‘live’ candidates, we are continually generating new interest via various methods including social media, online and print advertising, headhunting campaigns and referrals. In truth, we find that most people (whether they are an active job seeker or not) are open to hearing about new opportunities that can add real value to their career development.
Which locations are your candidates based?
We’re based in the North, so naturally we have the most influence across the M62 Corridor as that is where our historic relationships lie. However, we have an increasing number of key clients throughout the whole of the UK which has led to us expanding our candidate network significantly in all areas of the GI market.
What do you predict for 2014 from a recruitment perspective?
One trend I can definitely see continuing into 2014 is the appetite for senior appointments. We are being retained by more and more of our clients to work on executive-level assignments, and a number of brokers have asked us to help facilitate acquisitions and ‘team moves’ for them. With confidence levels up, I also anticipate firms making many more ‘speculative hires’, where they recognise a cultural synergy with candidates who can add real value to their business.
